Gaming

As well as being enthused by the technical aspects of Computing, as detailed in Interests, I am also a very avid gamer. The majority of my gaming is upon the PC platform; although I do have a PS2.

I began playing PC games when I was much younger, with the likes of Lemmings and 2D games such as Duke Nukem. My drive for knowledge of the inner-workings of computers was most definately encouraged by this gaming at an early age.

I find it amazing looking back and seeing how much games have changed over the years. With the vast improvements in computer hardware, the most obvious changes lie in the graphics and realism area. Faster CPU's allow far more complex environments, thanks to highly evolved Physics engines for example. The graphics hardware of today allows games to be run at very crisp resolutions, with scenes full of different highly detailed objects. These things greatly aid the gameplayer in becoming totally immersed, which is how I believe great games should feel. It is important, however, not to lose sight of the actual game's content amidst the immersive graphics. A game's storyline is still as important as ever to make a game fun, challenging and compellingly mysterious.
